Gugu Gumede made headlines after revealing that she was taking a break from Uzalo for maternity leave. Fans were shocked as they never suspected their favourite actress was pregnant. On Uzalo, she playacts a role of a spirit seer and healer of KwaMashu who helps people being tormented by evil spirits, leaving Mzansi curious about her off-screen life.
The actress is more than a pretty face and incredible body we see on our screens. She is the epitome of hard work. Despite being a great actress with several awards, Gugu is an academic intellectual.
Gugu Gumede’s academic qualifications stun Mzansi
The actress we all love to hate was born and bred in KwaZulu Natal. She comes from a prominent family; her mother, Zanele Kamagwaza-Msibi, is a former Minister of Science and Technology who reigned during Jacob Zuma’s era. Gugu’s parents wanted their daughter to study Law, but fate decided otherwise.
After passing her matric with flying colours, Gugu won a scholarship to study abroad. She moved to the United States of America for his degree in Arts. The Uzalo actress holds a degree in Drama and Theater Arts; she graduated with a distinction.
Following her graduation, Gugu moved back to South Africa and started to work as a political activist under her mother’s organisation. She worked in the program for one year and discovered that being a politician was never her calling, and she switched to acting, marking the beginning of her acting career.
A career in the entertainment industry
Gugu won her first acting gig in 2013 as Mandisa in Generations. She later resigned from Generations due to salary disputes with the production management. After playing Mandisa, she landed a lead role in Uzalo, and she has been nailing it to perfection resulting in her winning an award for her role in 2017. Currently, she is on maternity leave, and fans can’t wait for her to come back on their screens.
