On the 27th of November, the construction mogul, entrepreneur, philanthropist and reality show tv star Shauwn Mkhize took to Instagram to celebrate her honorary doctorate she was awarded by the Good Shepherd College of Religion, Culture Training Christian Institution.
An honorary doctorate is awarded by a public or a private higher education and training institution to an individual who has made a tremendous contribution in a particular industry or contributes to society. Dr Rebecca Malope, a gospel singer, received an honorary doctorate for her assistance in gospel music from the University of KwaZulu Natal. Dr Ester Mahlangu received hers from the University of Johannesburg to contribute to Ndebele paintings.
Shauwn Mkhize wrote a letter to her late parents who read, “Dear Mama and Papa.
”Here we are. your daughters are both doctors. I hope you are watching over us now, and you are beyond proud. Thank you, Lord, for this day, and thank you to oKhabazela ka Mavovo kayihlanda. It’s moments like this that I cherish from the bottom of my heart, being celebrated and acknowledged whilst I’m still alive. Officially, you can now address me as Dr President Shauwn Mkhize.”
Shauwn Mkhize then prematurely changed her Instagram name to Dr Shauwn Mkhize. After that, the Department of Higher Education and Training spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi said the college was not registered as a Higher Education and Training institution.

Blade Nzimande also expressed disappointment with the rising number of unregistered institutions issuing fake honorary doctorates to public figures. He also urged the public to check if an institution appears on the department of education and training website before registering. Currently, the Council of Higher Education (CHE) investigates all the reported cases of awarded honorary doctorates.
Shauwn Mkhize could lose her ‘ doctorate ‘ and revert to being called by her name without the Dr. title. Also, the Good Shepherd College of Religion, Culture and Training Christian Institution could be shut down permanently.
