SA Celebs Who Lost Their Jobs Because Of Their Opinions
We can all agree that there is freedom of speech but no freedom after speech. Of late the entertainment industry has seen itself having holy matrimony with politics of the day and social affairs.
Despite being influential figures several entertainers have been sent packing because of their different opinions on societal matters. There is nothing wrong with having an opinion that is different from other people. In fact, a different view is always needed, more so in complicated issues.
Having noted that though, there are times when you need to apply discernment before speaking out. You need to understand that there is a time and place to air your views. Some of our celebrities ended up losing their jobs, after putting their views out there.
Celebrities like DJ Fresh, Phat Joe, MacG, Rami Chuene, and a whole lot more were sent packing for their unnurtured opinions.
SA Celebs Who Lost Their Jobs Because Of Their Opinions
DJ Fresh
Celebrated Controversial DJ Fresh was once shown the exit door from Metro FM after a verbal altercation with a listener on air. DJ Fresh, real name Thato Sikwane, is one of the best radio personalities in the country. The talented star is always making headlines for the wrong reasons. DJ Fresh and Euphonik are currently facing some rape allegations.
MacG
Not so long ago MacG was fired from radio over homophobic comments. He is in trouble again, this time through his YouTube channel. MacG together with Sol Phenduka and Ghost Lady touched on a topic about transgenders and basically how the issue was addressed left the LGBTQI community fuming. In the wake of this fiasco, Old Mutual terminated their sponsorship with him with immediate effect.
Phat Joe
Once Mzansi’s favorite Phat Joe lost the spark along the way. No doubt he’s one of the controversial radio personalities in the country. He has seen himself being axed due to his opinions. At some point, Phat Joe was pulled off air following some homophobic comments. There was a time also where he allegedly spoke about Down Syndrome in a mocking way on the radio.
Vatiswa Ndara
One can be off the hook even for good intentions. Back in 2019, multi-award-winning actress, Vatiswa Ndara wrote an open letter to Minister Nathi Mthethwa. She spoke about abuse, exploitation, and bullying that she and other actors on the Mzansi Magic film Igazi had to endure at the hands of the Ferguson Films production. Since then she hasn’t secured a gig on screen. No doubt she seems to have been blackmailed.
Rami Chuene
In a dramatic rollercoaster, Rami Chuene was fired from The Queen after she weighed in support of Vatiswa. Rami Chuene was one of the most-loved cast members on The Queen. Unfortunately, her character, Gracious Mabuza was killed off after an alleged behind-the-scenes drama with the Ferguson family. Lucky for her, she was absorbed back into the industry after the drama.
Marah Louw
Marah Louw is among those who applauded Vatiswa Ndara for penning an open letter highlighting the alleged mistreatment of actors at Ferguson Films. The veteran actress also said she had to endure some consequences after speaking out against the company. Just like Vatiswa, the veteran actress has not worked anywhere since.
