The owner of the PSL club Royal AM, Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize, is in hot water as she owes a whopping R37 million to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
She lost a court case on Monday, 16 October, when the High Court of South Africa ordered her to pay up or face the consequences.
The court issued a Warrant of Execution, which means that the sheriff can seize and sell her movable assets, including those of her club.
SARS sued Royal AM for failing to pay their taxes on time. The tax authority also charged them interest on the outstanding amount, which will keep increasing until they settle their debt.
The Warrant of Execution states:
“The Execution Creditor / Plaintiff [SARS] obtained judgment on 16 October 2023 against the Execution / Defendant [Royal AM] for:
- The payment of the sum of R37, 915, 549.77 [Thirty-seven million nine hundred and fifteen thousand five hundred and forty-nine rand and seventy-seven cents].
- Interest on the sum claimed in paragraph 1 at the applicable rate per annum from 1 November 2023 to date of payment, the said rate[s] of interest and date from which such interest is payable having been determined by the Execution Creditor / Plaintiff [SARS].”
