Legendary Sports Broadcaster Robert Marawa exchanges blows with Minister of Sports Nathi Mthethwa’s spokesperson Masechaba Ndlovu over deceased Anele Ngcongca issue.
Marawa defended the family of Anele Ngcongca, the former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns defender who tragically died in an accident last month.
The Ngcongca family expressed their displeasure to the Nathi Mthethwa led Ministry of Sports over the failure to acknowledge the fallen Bafana Bafana defender who participated in the 2010 World Cup. Through family spokesperson Anele’s sister Siyasanga Ngcongca the Ngcongca family revealed that there was no contact from the Ministry of Sports, they saluted Minister of Transport Mr Fix Fikile Mbalula for coming through and meet the family.
This man played for the World Cup Bafana Bafana with 50 caps. But there’s silence. Fikile Mbalula is the only Minister that came to meet the family.
Not a single Minister has come forward to share a message of condolences. Only Minister Fikile Mbalula came to see Anele’s mother who is now ill. We thank you Mr Fix, ungumntu wabantu.
-Siyasanga Ngcongca
The family furthermore revealed the postponement of Anele’s burial to the 10th of December 2020 the funeral service is expected to be held at Gugulethu Stadium. Siyasanga revealed that the postponement of the burial was because Anele’s mother is not feeling well.
Ministry of Sports claps back at Anele Ngcongca’s family
Reckless Ministry of Sports spokesperson Masechaba Ndlovu claps back at the Ngcongca family and disclosed that Minister Nathi Mthethwa cannot visit the family since Anele’s mother tested positive for Covid -19. This disclosure of someone’s illness outraged South Africans who called for her immediate removal from the spokesperson position.
Dear @robertmarawa, neither the MEC nor Minister @NathiMthethwaSA can visit the family at this time as Anele’s mother has tested positive for COVID-19. For this reason, the funeral has been moved to next week.
-Masechaba Ndlovu
Masechaba furthermore revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns has provided R100,000 and the Provincial Department of Sport provided R40,000 towards Anele’s funeral.
Robert Marawa defends Anele Ngcongca family and legacy
Sports broadcaster Robert Marawa defended the Ngcongca family and revealed that reckless Masechaba Ndlovu had no permission from the family to disclose the illness of Anele’s mother.
He further ascertained that Mama’s diagnosis was received 7 days after Anele Ngcongca’s death and questioned why the Minister of Sports hasn’t issued a statement yet.
The family has NOT released a statement on the nature of illness of uMama and I’m not sure if u’ve been granted permission to publicly disclose such….A diagnosis was ONLY received on Monday 30th November..Anele passed away on 23 November…no statement, no phone call to the Family came through from the Minister or his office since his passing is all that Siyasanga Ngcongca was lamenting in her tweet. Nowhere did she say she’s asking for money which is what u r now highlighting in the pockets of donations u mention.

Marawa defends Alene’s finances
Despite the efforts by Masechaba Ndlovu to make the Ngcongca family’s complaint financially driven, Marawa revealed that Anele was a well-paid footballer who spent 10 years in Belgium and whose savings regime is well documented in various publications way before he passed away. So money was NOT the issue.
Your desire to censor a bereaved member of the Family should never be your focus. What is “reckless” is your response.
