Court ruling
Rea Gopane was sued by media personality Bonang Matheba after the claimed that she introduced AKA to cocaine. Bonang asked him to retract his statement, and he refused. She took him to court for defamation of character and won R300,000 in damages.
Rea’s reaction after the ruling
Bonang took to Twitter to celebrate her court win. She said the next 30 years would be fun for him, sarcastically denoting that he’ll be broke for the next 30 years due to his stubbornness. Rea, however, seemed to be not bothered by tweeting, “I don’t have time for delusional women, back to work.”
YouTuber Rea Gopane says, “She is not getting a cent.
He later posted a video of himself saying, “News flash, she is not getting a cent. I’ve been planning this from last year.” Rea, however, will not get away without paying Bonang a single cent. Unlike the United States of America, suing someone is a lot trickier on this side.
Future effects of not paying Bonang her R300,000
Rea became legally obligated to pay the money when the court played out in Queen B’s favour. From now going forward, Rea has the total debt of the sum. He will not qualify for a bank loan for this, he will not qualify to pay for car instalments, he will also not be eligible to get a housing bond, and there are jobs he won’t be allowed to do due to his debt.
Mzansi Twitter reacts
South Africa laughed their lungs out upon hearing Rea would have to pay Queen to be 300k. He cannot afford it, and life will be difficult for the boy. He did, however, get himself into this mess, and now, he has to far the music.
Possible jailing
If he doesn’t make a single payment towards Bonang, she has the right to take the matter to the high court, and from there, the money can be increased, or he can get a fine or be jailed. Rea’s video can also be evidence of his refusal to pay the media personality.
