ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed an allegation by a ZANU-PF spokesperson Tafadzwa Mugwadi about the controversial trip to Zimbabwe during the national lockdown.
What started as a Twar between SABC Foreign Editor Sophie Mokoena and Mugwadi has now blown to become a diplomatic tussle between Zimbabwe and South Africa, with President Ramaphosa reportedly angry about the allegations levied on his organisation by Mugwadi.
Mugwadi as accusing Mokoena of spearheading a media onslaught on Zimbabwe when thousands of Zimbabweans were stranded at the Beitbridge border post as they were returning to South Africa after the festive holiday.
Mugwadi threatened to leak a bomb-shell about the motivation behind the meeting that saw an ANC delegation visiting Zimbabwe to meet their Zanu PF counterparts in September last year.
“If ANC and SABC do not restrain and reign Sophie Mokoena whose fake news is directed only at undermining a neighbouring country and president Mnangagwa for no apparent reason, I will seek permission to leak a bombshell on why the ANC delegation came to Zimbabwe,” Zanu PF’s Director of information, Tafadzwa Mugwadi reportedly said.
SABC responded to the debacle by contacting President Ramaphosa who challenged Mugwadi to throw the bombshell as she asserted the ANC has nothing to hide or to be afraid of.
