Railway cable thief electrocuted, burnt beyond recognition
A Cape Town cable thief was electrocuted and burnt beyond recognition while trying to steal railway cables. There has been an increase in cable theft over the past years despite government efforts to safeguard public infrastructure.
The incident happened at Langa railway station, the Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott confirmed.
United Commuters Voice (UCV) spokesperson João Jardim said: “We are saddened that there seems to be no end to this vandalism and worse still is that the people paid to protect the infrastructure are the ones either engaged or giving information or turning a blind eye, all for monetary reward.”
