Racism raised its ugly head on Skeem Saam, as Paddy discriminated against Kat and favoured Candice. Mapitsi’s cookbook has exposed shady sides to people, including Mapitsi herself.
Since she started to pursue this idea, she has lied, lost her job as a journalist and forced her way into Candice with a camera crew without consulting Kat and Candice.
The process has also revealed that Kat is more of a pushover than Candice when it comes to business decisions. Still, it also revealed that he is currently suffering a prejudiced situation from Paddy, a racist.
Fans of the show have spotted this ugly monster, and so have we.
Paddy clearly shows that she favours Candice and not Kat from the onset. She kept her focus on Candice the whole time the first time she came to Capsys and rudely sidelined Kat.
Kat is about to suffer a severe blow from this situation, enough for him to leave Capsys. The teasers mention that he will suffer serious betrayal from someone close to him.
Mapitsi took good pictures of Candice and Kat for the book’s cover, and Paddy shocked her when she picked only Candice’s picture for the cover and left Kat out.
As we have reported, Candice will betray Kat most horribly. What we haven’t figured out is how Mapitsi is going to play a part in this betrayal.
Kat and Candice went into business together after finishing their degrees in a cooking school.
Kat also suffered racism at school from the head, Chef Marlene, who accused him of stealing an exam paper.
Chef Marlene hated Kat and used her power to make his life difficult while favouring Candice.
It looks like we are going through the same thing with Paddy.
The truth is that she wants Kat to be Candice’s helper because he is black. At least, that’s what the viewers think.
So is Paddy a racist?
Let’s review the evidence.
1. She refuses to accept Kat as an equal partner to Candice. Paddy asked Candice how she decided to start the business and not Kat. To which Candice replied, ” we started it together.”
2. She insists that Kat doesn’t have a marketable face for the audiences she wants to publish to. The first time she had a chat with Mapitsi, she implied that Kat would be suited to cook for people who eat chicken feet and tripe,
Assuming that black people don’t enjoy or cannot afford to buy the kind of cookbook she wants to market.
Paddy is ignoring the fact that a young black woman, Mapitsi, suggested the book and that Capsys caters for all kinds of foods and that Kat is the one who came out tops for specializing in cooking gourmet food, a fact Candice let her know as well.
3. The last reason is that Paddy chooses to expose Candice and sideline Kat, not because he is not good at his job or anything else, but because he is black.
Kat will end up trying to find his way outside of Capsys because of this situation.
