Prominent gospel artist Dr Tumi and wife granted bail
A famous gospel artist and medical doctor Dr Tumi and his wife have been granted bail. The two had been arrested on charges of defrauding the National Lotteries Board (NLB). The couple had handed themselves to the police.
Hawk’s spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu confirms the arrest of the two. Dr Tumi real name Tumisang Victor Makweya (39) and his wife Kgaigelo Sara Makweya (36) were committee members of a non-profit organisation when the supposed fraud happened. The Makweyas submitted distorted grant application documents to the NLB for approval of funds on projects back in 2018.
Captain Mulamu says further investigations reveal that the couple with their co-accused who have been released on R5 000 bail each, altered information on documents and this resulted in an amount over R1.5 million rand being transferred into a private bank account.
“The couple benefited approximately R760 000 from the funds. They then decided to hand themselves in escorted by their attorney and were charged for fraud. After appearing in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, they were each granted R3 000 bail. The case has been postponed to the 7th of May 2021 for docket disclosure,” she said.

Members of the public seem not to be surprised by Dr Tumi’s actions. Despite being the man of integrity some believe he is greedy and why would he take himself in after his co-accused had been granted bail? Here are some of the comments,
“I knew this guy was a villain when he lied about being offered $1 million a month by the Illuminati so that he stops being a Christian.”
“I hope it is not true because if it is , then this is the highest level of greed and it must be condemned. Dr, Musician and now this.”
“Dr Tumi an Arthur Mafokate same WhatsApp group.”
However, others seem to think he is innocent posting comments like,
“My Dr is innocent and I don’t want to hear anything about that. They left Bushiri defrauding poor South Africans.”
