State media report that private companies are setting up coronavirus treament centres across Zimbabwe in a way to assist the government to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
Borrowdale trauma centre to become Coronavirus treatment centre
Borrowdale Trauma Centre owner Trauma Centre founder Dr Vivek Solanki confirmed the development to Herald. “I am part of a team that is setting up several centres around the country to test and treat coronavirus patients in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC).”
Sakunda’s Kuda Tagwirei joins fight against coronavirus
State media also reports Sakunda Holdings boss Kuda Tagwirei is working to refurbish St Annes hospital and turn into into a functional hospital for covid-19. Tagwirei already bought Rock Foundation hospital from Munyaradzi Kereke and will immediately turn the 36 bed Mt Pleasant based hospital into a covid-19 treatment centre.
Obadiah Moyo confirms the developments
Health Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo confirmed the developments to ZTN.
“Private companies are coming in a big way, a lot of private companies want to be part of the team. We are going to roll out the plan in very province. Our Infrastructure Committee will look at it.” said Dr Moyo.
It is also reported that plans are underway to make use of facilities at Arundel Hospital in Harare and Ekhusileni Medical Centre in Bulawayo.
Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa dismissed the allegations that the government had roped in Kuda Tagwirei to set up Covid-19 treatment hospitals for themselves.
