Prince Kaybee Picks #ProjectHope Winners
Award-winning producer Prince Kaybee has given 10 female vocalists a reason to smile.
The lucky ladies have been given a chance to record a song with him.
Kaybee ran a competition called #ProjectHope to look for a female singer. The competition started last month and after the ladies sent him videos of themselves performing, the winner was announced.
The producer from Gugulethu, Cape Town, ended up choosing 10 women.
He told Daily Sun: “The reason I went to social media was because it would be easy to find someone not signed to any label, and who has not been exposed much to the industry. I was looking for raw talent.
“The competition got a great response and I saw a lot of talented ladies. I thought it would be unfair to choose just one person. They also motivated me to stretch myself to other genres. We’ve already started recording and the new album will not just be house.”
The women have been sent to a five-day boot camp with artists such as Kelly Khumalo, DJ Tira, Msaki, and Aus Tebza.
“The boot camp started yesterday and will teach them about music and the industry. It will be focused mostly on music writing,” he said.
Speaking to the publication, two of the 10 women, Talitha Mteto and Thobile Mnguni, said they were excited for Mzansi to hear their music.
Thobile from Durban, KZN, said: “I’m happy to be working with these amazing girls and Prince Kaybee. It’s been an amazing journey.”
Talitha, who’s from Eldorado Park in Joburg, said she panicked when she was chosen because she couldn’t believe it.
“I can’t wait for people to hear my song. It’s an uplifting Afro-pop song and I’m ecstatic about it,” she said.
