Possession of thee following skin lightening products attract a 3 month jail term in Zimbabwe. Possession of unregistered medicines which include Betasol cream and lotion, Lemonvate cream, Epideme cream, Bronze Tone, Perfect White cream, Cocopulp Lightning Oil and cream, Carolight cream, Pure Skin Lotion, Bio Claire and Diproson caused the conviction of a Bulawayo woman.
A 41 year old woman from Bulawayo has been sentenced to three months in prison after being caught in possession of harmful skin lightening creams.

Iris Khumalo of house number 56397 Old Lobengula pleaded guilty to contravening the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act which criminalises the sale of unapproved and unregistered medicines.
Khumalo appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Ms Lindiwe Maphosa.
She was handed a 5 year jail term before one month was suspended for 5 years of good behaviour.
The skin lightening creams are usually smuggled from Zambia.
Prosecuting, Mrs Sithabile Daka-Mungombe narrated the arrest of Khumalo in Hwange.
“Police deployed at Masuwe roadblock stopped a vehicle that was going towards Hwange and requested to search luggage. The driver had given a lift to four passengers. Police found various kinds of unregistered medicines in Khumalo’s bag.”
