Police bans movement of dead bodies
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has banned the movement of dead bodies. This ban has been passed as an effort to limit the spread of Covid-19.
Burial will now take pace where one would have died. Corpses will only be to leave the morgue to go straight to the cemetery. The police prohibits movement of bodies from place to place.
Police bans movement of dead bodies
The Zimbabwe Republic Police statement says,
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police advises the public that the Ministry of Health and Child care has informed the police of immediate restrictions imposed on the movement of dead bodies for burial in the country.
According to health officials, a body will now be buried in the town/city of death. The aim is to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In this regard, the police will only clear body movements for burial straight from a funeral parlour/hospital mortuary to the burial site. No body viewing at funerals. Bodies are not to go home.
The public is to keep a distance during the lowering of the body into the ground by either city health or funeral parlour officials. The grave site will be disinfected before burial.
Police commanders in all provinces are going to ensure that the public complies with Government’s directive. The public is accordingly aware of this important message. “
This comes after the continuous rise in number of infections and deaths recorded in the country. Some have criticized this stating that the Government does not respect the cultural and traditional values of Zimbabweans. However, saving lives is of better essence at the moment because the virus is not sparing anyone based on cultural value.
