The Wife season 2 breaks the record of most streamed on Showmax
The first season of The Wife had the most-streamed first episodes on Showmax back in November 2021. The show was a hit among the fans of the actors and the book series. After the end of the first season, fans could hardly wait for the debut of the second one with Khanyi Mbau as one of the leads.
In a shocking turn of events, entertainment news reporter Phil Mpela has announced that the first three episodes of the second season have broken the previous record. In an email, Showmax sent to the reporter the Second season debut has tripled the views of the first season debut.
On 17 Feb, when the show debuted its second season, these events occurred. Fans think that it’s because of what they are calling the Khanyi Mbau effect. Other fans are saying that they only got to sign up on Showmax because Khanyi joined the show.

In the series, Khanyi brings to life the role of Zandile, who is Nkosana, the first Zulu brother’s wife. After being broken out of prison, she finds it difficult to settle in with her family and kids. Her sons, who had been told that she was dead, find it hard to reconcile that she is still alive and is back. However, her marriage and relationship with Nkosana picked up from where it left off as if no years had passed.
The online subscription platform has gained a tremendous amount of subscriptions. MultiChoice developed Showmax in 2019, focusing on local content and partnering with mobile telecommunications. They pride themselves on streaming first and exclusive South African content. Before The Wife, Real Housewives of Durban held the most-watched show on the platform.
