The winner of the Ukhozi FM song of the year Hlosiwe Mthalane, popularly known as DJ Hlo, is batting to explain how she win her award. South Africans all over her accused her of fraudulently winning one of the most anticipated music awards in the country.
‘There is a huge scandal brewing with this Dj Hlo thing. Thul ubheke,’ DJ and broadcaster Sol Phenduka wrote in his Twitter account. His comments left Mzansi puzzled. Does he know something about the award? Is he going to clarify his statements?
DJ Hlo thought it was best to defend herself from the suspicions. She was interviewed by the Daily Sun, where she stated that she deserves the award and she is not bothered by the haters. But we know she is worried as she announced she would release a presser about her award.
The Durban born musician said she is receiving bookings from all over the country after her newfound fame. She claims prominent artists are lining up to collaborate on musical projects. Some South Africans believe she bought her way to fame, especially after showing her love for the corruption accused ANC party publicly. Could the sudden rise in fortunes be a product of corruption?
In many images she shared on her Instagram, Hlo attends an ANC gathering and lets them have a photo moment with her. Her association with the ruling party attracted criticism from her followers. DJ Hlo posed with the UMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association’s (MKMVA) former spokesperson Carl Niehaus in one of the pictures. Niehaus is a staunch former President Jacob Zuma supporter.
On another occasion, the University of KwaZulu Natal graduate sits in an ANC, gold black and green branded vehicle.
Social media users speculated that she could have used her influence in the ruling party to win the song of the year award. However, she claims her fans helped her get the long-overdue recognition in her budding career.
