In what started as a colourful event for media personalities hosted by one of the world’s biggest bands, the day turned out to leave a bad memory in the history of South African showbiz.
The picture of media personality Boity Thulo after former presenter Bujy Bikwa injured her surfaced online today. Boity was hospitalised after she was cut by a bottle of beer thrown at her by Bujy.
Eyewitnesses to the incident revealed Boity was drinking together with other media personalities at a Midrand Hotel. The celebrities were attending the launch of Huawei’s new Nova8 cellphone.
Due to a heavy downpour of rain in Johannesburg, Huawei cancelled the event. Huawei organised a dinner for the guests at a Midrand hotel, and Boity and Bujy were among the guests.
The cellphone maker booked a few celebrities who could not travel due to the curfew imposed for Adjusted Level 1. The pair were supposed to spend the night at Courtyard Hotel.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Savanna News, Boity, who is pompous, argued with some guests before the fight with Bujy.
As a traditional healer by calling, Boity pushed her unsolicited “readings” to the guests insisting it was her duty as a sangoma. Bujy tried to calm down the Wuz Dat hitmaker without success. In the audio clip we have, Bujy is heard calling out Boity’s aggressiveness.
Boity retaliated by shouting above everyone else, insinuating that Bujy was not known in the media circles and was a nobody. Bujy was infuriated by a voice heard in the clip mentioning Sodom and Gomorrah, and he is heard calling Boity’s ancestors fake.
The former Metro FM deejay referred to Boity’s mother’s genitals. The Hip Hop artist responded by claiming Bujy’s career was over and would not succeed in the future.
According to eyewitnesses, Bujy emptied his drink on Boity’s head, shouting that everybody would know who he was after hurting Boity. Someone in the audio is heard shouting, ‘that’s a cut.’
Savanna News has pictures of Boity’s face with at least four cuts, while her white shirt is soaked with blood.
Boity made a police report resulting in Bujy being arrested and locked by Midrand police for the weekend. Bujy was released on R2,000 bail on Monday after appearing at the Midrand Magistrate court. Bujy opened a separate case against Boity. We could not reach Boity and Bujy for comment.
