Gender based violence is one monster the South African community is fighting against each and every day. It is hard to understand how one brutally assaults or kills one person they claim to love from the core of their heart. Pictures of a 16 year old girl identified as Gugu are circulating on social media. The pictures are so disturbing and it hurts that a 20 year old is already hitting women.
This reflects a lot of loopholes in the society and the way boys are raised. Men should be nurtured to protect their partners and fend for them not assault them. Gugu’s uncle took to Twitter to alert the public of what the boy did to his niece.
“This is my niece, Gugu she’s only 16 years old. She was assaulted by what we call a “BF” who is 20 years old. A case was opened and we filed a protection order. He was arrested by SAPS today. All we asking for is Justice. She’s still alive,” he posted with some pictures of the seriously injured Gugu.

Many are heart broken by the pictures and call for the authorities to do what is right. The boy also needs to know that assaulting a woman leads to serious consequences because for a 20 year old to hurt someone like that is disappointing. The public thinks Gugu is lucky to be alive after seeing the extent of her facial injuries.
However, other members of the public do not think it is best to Tweet about this since the police have arrested the wrongdoer. Other people instead of seeing the real problem they talk about why she is dating at 16. This angers most women on social media because this should not be defended. Most parents understand where Gugu’s uncle is coming from. Since the arrest, nothing has been reported but people want justice for Gugu.
