The year begins on a bright note for Phumeza Mdabe. A new show is on the cards for the TV personality. Phumeza will host a show called Abandoned. The show that will air on Mzansi Magic on the 19th of January is aimed at heling orphans who were abandoned as toddlers to track down their family members.
Phumeza took to Instagram to celebrate the show. The show hits home for the actress as she also grew up bot knowing who her father is. “I understood what some of the guests had experienced,” she says. I didn’t know my father who was white, and I could relate to the issues of identity and abandonment.”
Phumeza Mdabe says when she was 15 she went in search of her father who she found but wasn’t interested in having a relationship with her. As such, presenting Abandon comes as therapy for her.
“The biggest reward for me is being able to assist families in getting closure. The look in the eyes of the children when they receive answers is priceless. Parents getting the opportunity to explain that at times they felt giving their children up for adoption is the only way out. We often judge parents who abandon their children without hearing their side of the story. Many parents live with guilt and have mothers also suffer a lifetime of damage. With everything happening now in the world; the coronavirus outbreak, most job loss, and sadness, the show is going to highlight hope for many people. Not all hope is lost; no matter what you are going through you will get through it”.
Filming the show began in 2019 and finally viewers can experience the hard work behind the scenes. Phumeza Mdabe reached out to individuals who may want to find their families. No doubt it will be one emotional show.
