Orlando Pirates are already planning for the next transfer window, with reports suggesting that head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has set his sights on AmaZulu’s highly rated centre-back Wandile Dube.
Pirates’ Transfer Strategy
The Buccaneers have been aggressive in the market since Ouaddou’s arrival in July 2025, signing more than 10 players in the off-season and adding further reinforcements in January, including Andre de Jong, Daniel Msendami, and Mpho Chabatsane. Msendami and Chabatsane previously worked under Ouaddou at Marumo Gallants, highlighting the coach’s preference for familiar talent.
Now, the Moroccan tactician is reportedly keen to bolster his defensive options with Dube ahead of the 2026/27 season.
AmaZulu’s Rising Talent
Dube, 21, is a product of AmaZulu’s academy and made his senior debut in August 2025 against Sekhukhune United. Though he has featured only six times across all competitions — all as a substitute — his performances have impressed scouts, including those from the MTN8 and Carling Knockout champions.
AmaZulu, however, are expected to resist any approach, determined to hold onto their promising young defender.
Filling the Defensive Void
Pirates’ interest comes at a time when their backline has been reshaped. Olisa Ndah’s departure left a significant gap, while Mbekezeli Mbokazi moved to MLS side Chicago Fire. The club responded by signing Chabatsane, but with Ndah gone, another addition is seen as necessary to maintain balance and depth in the squad.
