Born Oscar Sibonginkosi Mdlongwa, DJ Oskido has been trending after his nationality and age were questioned. Undoubtedly, he has fast become one of Mzansi’s finest in the music industry. In recent years he has been credited to be the man behind the thrust to fame for several A-list celebrities, including DJ Zinhle and Pearl Thusi.
The celebrated music producer and business mogul is said to be one of the brains behind the Kwaito genre. He has since been praised for popularizing it. He also doubles as the Co-founder of Kalawa Jazmee. The record label has several big acts signed under them, like Bongo Maffin and Mafikizolo.
However, his nationality of late has seen him topping the trends. Oskido was born in Zimbabwe on November 26 1967, to a Zimbabwean father and a South African mother.
Of interest is that he did all of his education in Zimbabwe in Luveve, a Township in Bulawayo, Township, up until the age of 21. At 21, he relocated to Lethlabile in 1988 to take over the family business. However, in the mix of things, he discovered his craze for music and years later, he relocated to Johanessburg to pursue his career.

However, in the mix of things, his nationality has been implicated in the equation. Unlike other A-list South African celebrities who learned in Zimbabwe, Oskido’s case is different. He was born to a Zimbabwean father, Esaph Mdlongwa and a South African mother, Emily Sophia Molefi.
Of interest is that he was not born in Zimbabwe as many allege but spent the better half of his early childhood in Zimbabwe. The 54 award-winning producer was born on November 29 1967, in Oukasie township, Brits, North West, South Africa. In the backdrop of this, we have come to connect the dots about his age which has been a mystery for years.
However, his career path wasnt rosy. He started with free performances at Razzmatazz when the scheduled DJ pulled a no-show. In recent years his thrust into stardom has been credited to the late Ian Sigola, who introduced him to the club scenes by lending him his vinyl.
Years later, he released the cassette compilations ‘Mixmaster’ and ‘Big Jam’, giving him a headstart to his newfound fame. Since then, he has been winning big. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at the 13th Metro FM Music Awards. On July 23, 2021, he released a single, “Sizophelelaphi”, with Msaki.
