Zimbabwe Health Minister Obadiah Moyo has been arrested for corruption. He is currently at Rhodesville police station in Harare.
Following a day of speculation, Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police over Covid-19 procurement scandal that has been the most talked about topic in Zimbabwe. At the centre of the corruption scandal is Zimbabwe’s First Family with President ED Mnangagwa’s son Collins fingered as the beneficiary.
According to multiple sources and leaked letters seen by this publication, a company called Drax Consult and another called Drax International both owned by a friend of the Mnangagwa family Delish Nguwaya were first awarded a contract worth USD 20 million to supply medical equipment and medicines and another USD 40 million for the supply of Covid-19 medicine and personal protective equipment.On numerous occasions Nguwaya was pictured with Obadiah Moyo.
Nguwaya arrested over Covid-19 tenders
Nguwaya, who has also at numerous occasions been pictured with Minister Obadiah Moyo at his offices and during other meetings. He was arrested last week and has since appeared in court but was denied bail. Ii is not the first time that Nguwaya has been arrested. He was once arrested in 2017 for money laundering and dealing in cocaine.

Leaked letter leads to Obadiah Moyo arrest
The matters came to light when a letter written by Finance Ministry secretary George Guvamatanga which instructed the Ministry of Health to procure face masks at USD28 each was leaked. The leaked letter caused outrage on social media and also prompted Western Embassies to publicly question the procurement processes by the Zimbabwe government. South African opposition politicians such as EFF Leader Julius Malema and Former Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane expressed their shock at the way the Zimbabwe government was abusing public funds.
