Nixon Nyikadzino is the current MDC-T Secretary General in the Thokozani Khupe faction. He recently fired Thokozani Khupe from the MDC-T and assumed the role of the Acting President of the MDC-T as he is the most senior member. He accused Khupe of belonging to more than one political party
History of Nixon Nyikadzino
Nyikadzino was a member of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA). In 2006 he was bundled into a truck by soldiers led by a Major Kembo. He fled to South Africa and worked there for several years before returning back to Zimbabwe. Nyikadzino used to be programs officer for the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) Nyikadzino. He was also present at the launch of the Itai Dzamara Trust.
About Robert Mugabe’s death, Nyikadzino said, “He was both a good man and a bad man, we want to thank him for the independence of Zimbabwe but for having brought us to where we are its another shame for him.”
Nixon Nyikadzino as Secretary General of MDC-T
He was appointed the secretary general of the MDC-T in February 2018 when the Khupe faction decided to hold a congress to elect substantive leaders of the party.
Acting President of the MDC-T
He appointed himself the Acting President of the MDC-T after Thokozani Khupe accepted the Supreme Court ruling and reverted to the 2014 party structures. Nyikadzino subsequently fired Thokozani Khupe from the MDC-T and assumed the post of the Acting President. Nyikadzino said, “Khupe has fired herself from the party by associating herself with the MDC-T cited in the Supreme Court judgement. Our MDC and the MDC referred to in the judgement are different. We have to protect the votes of the 162,000 people who voted for us during the 2018 elections.”
