NFP distances itself from Uzalo Actress MaMlambo
She has been dupped as one of Mzansi’s finest when it comes to our small screens. No doubt she is currently nailing her MaMlambo role on Uzalo, Mzansi’s most-watched drama series. Gugu Gumede is a seasoned actress best known for her on-screen character MaMlambo.
Things haven’t been well for her in recent months, from losing her mother to rumoured Uzalo exit. The seasoned actress happens to be the daughter of the late South African freedom fighter and prominent politician, MP Zanele kaMagwaza Msibi and the late Simon Hulumeni Gumede.
Her mother recently passed away a few weeks ago, and the seasoned actress was rumoured to be the heir to the NFP presidency. However, she even participated in NFP recent manifesto and revealed her interest in rekindling her mothers legacy.
Gugu committed herself to the party, founded by her late mother Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, at its manifesto launch in Nongoma, KZN, earlier this month.
Rumour mill had it that she even reached a mutual concern with Uzalo showrunners for her exit. Barely a few days after her shocking exit, it seems as if she is making a return to our screens again.
MaMlambo’s makes a shocking return on Uzalo after NFP rejects to be her bid to be the party’s president
The seasoned actress was supposed to exit the drama series through arrest, but the storyline had to be altered. Currently, on Uzalo, she was nabbed by the police for kidnapping and instead of being arrested, she was brought before the courts to justify her actions.
However, her return barely came after daring viral audios flooded social media. Some NFP members leaked voice notes in which the parties praesidium blocked Gumude’s bid to take over the party after her mother’s death. One of the senior party officials can be heard revealing that the party was not a family business; hence Gugu should keep her lane.
Gugu Gumede’s failure to take power from her mother’s party is the reason behind her shocking return to Uzalo. However, in the mix of things, Uzalo publicist Nomfundo Zondi told the SunTeam that Gugu would continue being an essential cast member.
“Her character MaMlambo is essential to delivering the much-loved twists and excitement in the Uzalo story,” she said.
Despite being Mzansi most-watched drama series, Uzalo lost around 3 million views in the third quarter of 2021. The latest viewership statistics confirmed this. According to the September prime time adult TV viewing figures, the drama series had a slump in numbers.
