New Lockdown appears probable in Zimbabwe
The country’s cases of COVID-19 seem to be rising again. Reporting to eNCA the secretary of Information Nick Mangwana confirms this.
“If we become as reckless as we were a few months ago and people ignore wearing masks then we will have a surge. The Government will have no other option but to introduce a lockdown to protect people. I don’t like lockdowns and I don’t think anybody does,” he said.
Just three weeks after relaxing the strict lockdown. Zimbabweans are being warned against being sloppy about the COVID-19 protocols. The infection rate is slowly increasing and the police have been arresting thousands of people not being careful and not wearing masks properly.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police issued a statement warning the citizens to follow the COVID-19 protocols. They also informed the public that they will be intensifying corona virus procedures. Lockdowns have affected everything in Zimbabwe from economic activities to social activities.
New Lockdown appears probable in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe recently received a second batch of the Sinopharm vaccine from China and the vaccination process has moved to the second phase. Schools opened on last Monday and teachers are to be vaccinated next. There is still a long way to vaccinate everyone but the government keeps encouraging people to go and take the vaccine.
Before the vaccine landed in Zimbabwe people believed in many false conspiracies which deterred people from appreciating the vaccine. Popular Prophets and social media influencers also warned people against vaccination especially in Africa.
However, this has changed and people are becoming more positive as the inoculation process continues. Although it is not everyone who is in support but those that were against it have calmed down a bit also.
The Vice President Constantino Chiwenga received his second jab of the vaccine. He took the first as a way of encouraging Zimbabweans to get the vaccine to save lives.
