Corona virus is associated with flue like symptoms such as fever, hot body, coughing and sneezing. However these obvious symptoms only begin to be felt when the disease is severe. Experts have revealed new symptoms that are associated with the early stages of contracting Corona virus.
The new symptoms of Corona virus are loss of the sense of smell and loss off the sense of taste. Again these symptoms are associated with flue and colds. Other symptoms are digestive issues , diarrhea and vomiting.
Loss of sense of smell and taste
What do prominent organisations say?
The British Association of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT UK) said “We have also identified a new symptom (loss of sense of smell and taste) that may mean that people without other symptoms but with just the loss of this sense may have to self-isolate – again to reduce the spread of the virus.”
When should you self isolate yourself?
Current World Health Organisation guidelines indicate that high temperature or new continuous cough are the only symptoms that should trigger self isolation. The new symptoms do not legally warrant self isolation but it is important for patients to self isolate upon realising such symptoms. Being proactive will reduce the risk of spreading Corona virus.
Diarrhea and stomach issues
Digestive and stomach issues have also been raised as other early symptoms of corona virus.
According to The American Journal of Gastroenterology suggest diarrhea and gastrointestinal issues are the first signs of the novel coronavirus. Consistent running stomach and stomach aches are some of the complaints that general practitioners receive when patients with Covid-19 visit them.
The study, conducted by Chinese researchers, looked at data from 204 coronavirus patients in China’s Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak. Of the 204 patients, 99 of them – about 48.5 percent — presented to the hospital with “with one or more digestive symptoms as their chief complaint,” namely diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain, per the study.
