South African actresses Thuthuka Mthembu and Noxolo Mathula play the role of Nonka and Lily on SABC 1 soap opera, Uzalo, respectively.
In Uzalo, Nonka and Lily are cousin sisters who stay together with MaDongwe and Njeza in KwaMashu township. The two are close onscreen hence drawing comparisons offscreen, with their ages, monetary possessions and salary on Uzalo compared.
The Nonka character is Lily’s younger cousin sister, who debuted our screen as a high school girl who visited her elder brother Njeza in jail. Lily, the lesser educated cousin, plays the role of a police officer in KwaMashu and works with Detective Nyawo and Mondli. With her police salary, Lily struggles to overturn her family’s fortunes. She values family and sometimes compromises ethics to protect family and friends; when the situation gets tense, Lily is not scared to take a shot to protect the vulnerable and the abused.
At one time, she shot her cousin brother Njeza down, who was in the middle of assaulting helpless Nosipho in front of the masses of the KwaMashu community. Having dated detective Mondli Mdlalose – the role played by Thembinkosi Thwala and often getting compliments from colleague officer Nyawo, Lily is yet to find Mr Right.

Lily opened a hot dog business, ‘Hotdogs by Noxolo’, which has managed to secure corporate clients over the period. In 2022, Noxolo earns a monthly salary of R 34 000; her net worth is valued at R 6.8 million.
On the other hand, Thuthuka Mthembu, five years younger than Noxolo, has business interests in Real Estate and Visual Arts.
