Muvhango risks cancellation as Scandal and House of Zwide dethrones Generations The Legacy on viewership.
Most shows on Television like Durban Gen are facing cancellations for not racking in views for the channels that air them. Viewers’ likes have been more aligned to short drama serials than long telenovelas that air for years. The broadcasting channels like to show programmes that sell and are frequently watched by their target viewers. With that in mind, they release a list ranking their most viewed programmes and ratings to see how they can better align their service to viewers’ needs.
July series viewers rankings
Entertainment news report Phil Mpela has released stats on the viewership of the past month, and it looks like Generations The Legacy, which has been in the second position for many years, has been dethroned. Usually, Uzalo gets the first position, and Generations lands the second place, with other serials coming after them. However, this month Uzalo took the first position, but the second place went to Scandal, and then House of Zwide came closely after in the third position.
The storylines on Scandal have been racking in new viewers with Dintle and Mo’s weird mother and daughter relationship. Also, Jojo finds out his wife Mbali’s dirty secret as the Kubekas are in a bid to save their company, and those storylines attract viewers as they have been waiting for the secrets to come out. Because of this, the views of the month totalled 5.3 million.
House Zwide on the third position
On the other hand, the past month, House of Zwide ended its first season with a bang as Funani discovered that Ona’ is his child Zobuhle, who he believed died in a fire 20 years ago. It has been a rollercoaster journey in the series as he found ways to punish his wife and Isaac, who worked with her to cover up her mess. During the first season, many viewers, at one point, threatened to boycott the show if they prolonged the discovery of the truth. It was a long-awaited reveal that has kept many viewers glued to their screens, trying to discover what would happen next on the show. This landed the telenovela third place on the rankings with a whopping 4.9 million.
Generations The Legacy loses viewership
Generations have been struggling to get views and land a fourth place with 4.7 million views. Uzalo is still reigning supreme in the first place and has held that position many times for several years. Etv is celebrating its wins as two of its shows are in the top three of the most watched shows though Durban Gen has been struggling to get viewers.
Muvhango is struggling to pull in viewers as it peaks at 1.8 million views compared to when it peaked at 6 million at its highest. Usually, when a show’s numbers drop, it is cancelled, and viewers feel the SABC show will get cancelled soon if these ratings continue.
