When Rosemary answers the door at Mpho’s house for James and Imani, they are shocked. Rosemary abducted Gugu, Imani’s cousin, and is currently on the run. Imani is furious and doesn’t want to hear Mpho’s justification for why she could be housing a violent felon who has caused her so much suffering. She is also upset because Gugu is worrying after learning Rosemary had escaped only to learn Gugu was keeping Rosemary.
Mpho makes an effort to convince them that she has a spiritual purpose in all of this and is meant to support Rosemary. Tenda and Mpho beg them not to tell anyone because Mpho might lose her mind if the police show up. She must travel with Rosemary to the end of her journey; the ancestors don’t care that she is a criminal or a runaway. Fortunately, Imani and James appear to comprehend this logic. Will they keep this from Gugu, though?
Imani and James are at a loss for words when they arrive at their house to find Gugu waiting for them because they now know the intruder Gugu is concerned about is at Mpho’s house. Because they don’t want Mpho to lose her mind, they decide against telling her and decide to keep it a secret.
Rosemary advises Mpho to silence Imani and James by casting a dark spell on them; she also suggests that she simply make them insane because no one will listen to crazy people. When presented with this suggestion, Mpho is horrified and immediately rejects it. Tenda suggests that Mpho ask the ancestors to forbid Rosemary from being associated with her; she keeps giving that some thought because she is aware of Rosemary’s bad reputation.
Tenda has no faith that Imani and James will be able to control their tongues regarding the Rosemary situation. Mpho, however, continues to use Tenda’s being accused of murder as a form of blackmail, saying that she doesn’t care how he does it as long as he makes sure Gugu is kept in the dark.
Gugu enters as James and Imani are debating whether or not to tell her something; she requests to know what it is. Will they be honest with her?
