Muvhango released a statement yesterday, and they have some big plans for their 25th Anniversary. Muvhango debuted on SABC1 on 7 April 1997, and the show went out as a mini-series before it became a Soapie.
The creator and founder of Word of Mouth pictures and the executive producer of the show Duma Ka Ndlovu have said that the viewers of the show are going to experience a shock of their life because the show is going to celebrate a legend who had been with the show for a long time.
According to the statement, It will be a year-long celebration, and it will be a Silver Jubilee themed “Riya Hayani”, translated as going back home. This will be a trip down memory lane where hardcore fans and viewers will enjoy cameos from their past favourite actors from the Soapie.
Muvhango is a story based on the rivalry between the wives of a polygamous man Mashudu Mukwevho whose death caused his two wives, one from the village and the other from the city, to fight over his body and his estate.
One of the wives of Mashudu was Catherine Mukwevho, and the character was portrayed by the legendary actor and songstress Mara Louw.
The Soapie has seen so many great actors come and go.
Mr Duma Ka Ndlovu said that the year-long celebrations would mark the anniversary of the soapie by engaging passionate fans and igniting audiences’ excitement.
“We have many exciting new things that will be announced soon, including some viewer interactions. We will also be shooting some scenes in Venda to celebrate our 25th anniversary,” Mr Ndlovu said.
The show plans activities and surprises that will keep its viewers glued to their screens.
Muvhango is one of the most successful soapies in South Africa. The Soapie has managed to keep its loyal fans throughout the years now; its new viewers will get a chance to go back to the origins of this fascinating story and meet some of the original cast members.
Maumela Mahuwa said being part of the show for 21 of the 25 years is surreal.
