Etv Announced its Saturday 8 pm movies and sparked an outbreak with people on social media.
The film in question is Anaconda.
The Movie Anaconda
Anaconda was first released in 1997 and received a meagre 4.8 / 10 rating on IMDB and a 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This movie grossed $136.8 million worldwide against a $45million budget. Anaconda became a cult classic, with an impressive like Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, and Jon Voight, to name but a few.
Anaconda is about a giant monstrous snake unleashes on this innocent filmmaking crew. John Voight catches these snakes for money. He lures these guys into the snake pit, and when things go wrong, he ends up having to use the crew as bait. This ends in tears obviously because many end up in the snake’s stomach, including John.
The movie became a franchise, and four more movies were made.
Etv going back in its word
Etv had been repeating Anaconda for years, much to the viewer’s disapproval, so after a few complaints, the channel promised it wouldn’t air Anaconda again.
Marketing strategy
Etv decided to go back on its word last week when they announced the return of Anaconda, and that’s why there was an outbreak on social media.
It looks like Etvs marketing strategy sufficed because the numbers are out, and according to Phil Mphela, a whopping 2 4 million viewers tuned in last week to watch. Anaconda trended for the whole weekend last week.
Celebrities talking about the movie
Many celebrities also took to social media to complain about Etv not keeping their word. These celebrities include Pearl Thusi and Mmusi Maimane, to count a few.
Etv decided to make it a Saturday movie feature for the whole month, and tomorrow we will be watching (The Hunt for the Blood Orchid).
The whole outbreak worked in their favour; after all, someone is very clever because all they had to do was get people talking about it.
