Mnangagwa Should Ban Cigarettes and Alcohol
Zanu PF legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has implored President Emmerson Mnangagwa to ban cigarettes and alcohol until a cure for the novel coronavirus Covid-19 has been found.
Speaking on Twitter, Wadyajena who is Gokwe Nembudziya member of Parliament said Mnangagwa must immediately ban and criminalise the sale, possession and consumption of both alcohol and tobacco until a Cobid-19 cure is found.
The Chairperson for the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement. and ZANU PF Midlands Youth League Secretary for Administration said the move is necessary considering the rate of local covid-19 transmissions.
I implore H.E @edmnangagwa to immediately ban & criminalise the sale, possession & consumption of both alcohol & tobacco until a COVID cure is found. With local transmissions surging to unprecedented levels, it’s time unpopular decisions are made! We’re too poor to take chances.

Wadyajena’s comments come after South Africa banned the sale and distribution of alcohol over the weekend.
The responses to Wadyajena’s tweet were mostly negative. Savanna News publishes some of the responses below:
Who is finding a cure? Which institution of research have you equipped or funded specifically to find the ‘cure’?
Or you waiting for some other govt to use its institutions to find the ‘cure’ while you roam about in the latest Lamborghinis looting funds meant for the pandemic— Rich (@richmacklin) July 13, 2020
It’s sad that as a law maker you lack an understanding as to why SA bans the sale of alcohol. It is not directly causing the surge in Covid 19, but there are more alcohol related casualties that are overwhelming hospitals when primary focus should be on Covid 19

Fair point Honorable; but on another thought; dont you think we need to invest more in health promotion activities than criminalize activities based on assumptions?
