Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday met President Cyril Ramaphosa’s special envoys.
Mnangagwa met Sydney Mufamadi, Baleka Mbete, and Ngoako Ramathlodi at Statehouse on Monday afternoon.

President Ramaphosa sent special envoys to neighboring Zimbabwe after he was petitioned to intervene in what Zimbabweans call gross human rights violations in the country.
The Special Envoys are expected to engage the Government of Zimbabwe and relevant stakeholders to identify possible ways in which South Africa can assist Zimbabwe.
Dr. Sydney Mufamadi is the former Minister of Provincial and Local Government (1999 to 2008). In 1994, after South Africa’s first democratic elections, he was appointed Minister of Safety and Security in the Government of National Unity – a position he held until 1999.
Ms. Baleka Mbete is former Deputy President of Republic of South Africa, former Speaker of the National Assembly and former Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC).
In a statement last week, Zimbabwe’s ruling party Zanu PF said it welcomed Ramaphosa’s decision to send special envoys to the country.
Zanu PF however denied there were human rights violations in Zimbabwe a sentiment that was also echoed by Secretary for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana.
In an interview in Masvingo on Saturday, Mangana said Zimbabwe has nothing to hide, as the so-called crisis was merely a creation of the nation’s detractors.
Mangwana said, “We welcome the two envoys because it will give them an opportunity to see for themselves what is obtaining on the ground. We have no problem with their coming and we will welcome them; they have to see the situation on the ground for themselves after being approached by those who went and made a report.”
