While he is serving couple goals on eHostela as Themba with his on screen girlfriend, Mlungisi is also serving couple goals offline with his girlfriend of 4 years, Nonduh Mkhize. The couple met in 2017 and has been inseparable ever since. Mlungisi and Nonduh are clearly joined at the hip and they usually take time to travel together.
“She’s my dream woman. I found the woman I have been looking for. I’ve always dreamt of one day having a Zulu, loving, smart, educated somebody and I found her. She’s very loving and so respectful, rooted and cultured. We understand each other,” he says.
Mlungisi is also a musician with a passion for music at heart. He is a maskandi musician who made his first appearance on the music scene in 2017. When asked about choosing maskandi, the musician says it comes from his upbringing. He says he has been singing all his life and acting just came along on his journey but his first love is singing.
“It’s a shock to many people, well to me it’s not a shock. Maskandi (a kind of Zulu folk music that is evolving with South African society) is my thing. I grew up in Nquthu (KZN) with my grandmother, siblings and cousins so we were singing maskandi, dancing to music of people like bab’Hhashi Elimhlophe, Bhekumuzi Luthuli, Phuzekhemisi to mention a few,” he said.
Mlungisi has a deep interest in theatre. He is co-founder of Black Brains in Action Theater Productions.
The actor survived a hijacking in 2017 where he lost his red Golf 7. Describing the ordeal, he said,” Just when I was about to start the car these guys appeared from nowhere and ordered us to lie down. They searched us and took our phones, wallets and some of our belongings. There were about four or five of them in two cars,”
