Miralem Pjanic Tests Positive For Covid-19
Barcelona has confirmed that their new signing Miralem Pjanic has tested positive for the coronavirus. He will be in quarantine for 15 days and miss the start of pre-season.
The Bosnian midfielder has signed a contract until the end of the 2023-24 season with a €400m buyout clause.
Brazilian midfielder Arthur joined Juventus at the end of the season in a deal worth an initial €72m (£66m), with Pjanic moving to FC Barcelona for a fee valued at €60m (£54.8m) plus add-ons.
Following the conclusion of Juventus and Barcelona’s Champions League campaigns, the two were now free to join their new clubs, but Miralem Pjanic will not yet travel to Barcelona after testing positive for Covid-19.
Writing on its website FC Barcelona said Pjanic tested positive in a PCR taken on Saturday 22 August after feeling a little unwell.
The club said Miralem Pjanic is self-isolating at home and is in good health.
The full statement reads, “Miralem Pjanic has tested positive in a PCR taken on Saturday 22 August after feeling a little unwell. The player is in good health and is self-isolating at home. The player will therefore not be travelling to Barcelona for 15 days, when he will be expected to report for duty with the FC Barcelona team.”
Before their game with Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Barcelona reported that a player had tested positive for covid-19.
Jean-Clair Todibo announced on Twitter that he was the player that had tested positive for covid-19. Barcelona said Todibo had no contact with any of the 22 players traveling to Portugal.
Todibo was part of a nine-player group who had returned to the club to begin pre-season training, which also included Pedri, Trincao, Matheus Fernandes, Moussa Wague, Carles Alena, Rafinha, Juan Miranda and Oriol Busquets.
