Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and billionaire Bill Gates’ wife Melinda Gates has voiced her thoughts about covid-19 and Africa.
Melinda Gates, spoke to CNN’s Poppy Harlow about the coronavirus pandemic and the “crisis” facing countries in Africa.
Asked about how America prepared for covid-19 she said, “we didn’t plan for a disease in America.”
Asked about vaccines she reiterated, “the vaccine is a the ultimate solution, we are preparing with our partners. We are developing 8 vaccines” Asked about the human trials Melinda said, “it looks promising, since we been in this business we need more candidates for clinical trials.”
Asked about how she felt when the statistics that more blacks or African Americans are dying from covid-19 came in she said, “It was heartbreaking when it started coming in, it affects everybody but differently when i saw what China had to do to isolate such enormous number of people i thought about Africa.”
“I thought about Africa, how in the world are they going to deal with this. I have been in Africa in townships. In Africa there is no clean water to wash hands. They have to go out o go and buy foods. Its going to be horrible to the developing numbers, look what is going on in Ecuador, they are putting dead bodies in the streets. Africa has few number of cases because they are not testing. I’m worried about the vulnerable society.”
