MDC Alliance Probes Masotsha’s Involvement In Muchehiwa Abduction
MDC Alliance has said it is investigating allegations young journalism student and activist Tawanda Muchehiwa.
The announcement was made by MDC Alliance Secretary General Charlton Hwende on Twitter.
When asked why the party was not releasing an official statement on MDC Alliance women assembly chairperson for Bulawayo province, Tendai Masotsha Hwende said, “This matter is being investigated internally and we will inform the public of the outcome.”
Masotsha is alleged to have played a part in the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa.
Muchehiwa who is the nephew to ZimLive.com editor Mduduzi Mathuthu was abducted a few weeks back by suspected state agents who used a vehicle that had been rented from Impala Car Rental.
Hwende said the matter has been referred to the MDC Alliance’s Organising Department and Security Department for further investigations. “We have noted the Allegations made against our Chairlady of our Bulawayo Province and we have referred the matter to both our Organising Department and Security Department for further investigation.”

In his account, Muchehiwa said on the day he was abducted, on 30 July 2020, he received a call from Masotsha, who said she had flyers that could be used in the protests the next day and wanted to his help in distributing them.
Savanna News has learnt that Masotsha was suspended by MDC Alliance Bulawayo Province for her alleged role in the abduction of Muchehiwa.
The province has also suspended Masotsha from all the party’s affiliated social media online groups.
MDC Alliance Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza, confirmed the party had suspended Masotsha and was finalising its investigations on her alleged involvement in Muchehiwa and other party members’ abduction.
