A few weeks ago, good news topped the headlines in Mzansi as Bafana Bafana fan favourite Benni McCarthy joined Manchester United as a strikers coach. The former Orlando Pirates talisman is the first African to be part of Manchester United’s first team coaches. The news meant Benni would join new coach Erik Ten Hag and other backroom staff like Steve Mclaren and Mitchell van der Gaag.
Benni made his name in the coaching fraternity after successful stints at Capetown City and Amazulu. MacCarthy is famously known for his stints at Blackburn Rovers and West Ham by many English fans worldwide. He scored two goals against Manchester United during his time with FC Porto leaving a mark that fans won’t forget easily. Benni is now tasked with coaching the strikers at Manchester United, and he has impressed with his first training session. He took the first team players like Christiano Ronaldo into training sessions, leaving Mzansi impressed.

The former Blackburn Rovers striker joined Manchester United when the giant club faced severe struggles on the pitch. The club had sacked four coaches since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, and expectations are high for Ten Hag and his staff to bring United back to the top.
On Benni specifically, he has one of the greatest players of all time in Ronaldo to coach with several highly rated strikers like Martial and Rashford. Expectations are high on MacCarthy and the team to deliver goals in a season Manchester United is not expected to finish in the top 4.

Before one listens to Benni, we can all agree that this is an ample opportunity for the Bafana Bafana striker. Manchester United remains one of the biggest football clubs in the world despite the lack of silverware in previous years. This move means Benni will be in the spotlight internationally, and his success will only bring glory to Mzansi and Africa.
Benni said he had loved Manchester United since he was a player and always wanted to play for the English giants. Speaking to Manchester United news, he said:
I support Man United and always wanted to play for them,” he once said. “I loved players like Mark Hughes, Andy Cole and Ryan Giggs.
