Mbalenhle Mavimbela had the country praising her acting skills after she brought to life one of the main characters in Dudu Busani-Dube’s book Hlomu the Wife. She starred as Hlomu on Showmax’s telenovela and has recently been nominated at the 10th Simon Sabela KZN Film & Television Awards for Best Actress.
Reflecting on Vulnerable Scenes
Taking to her Instagram timeline, Mbalenhle reflected on some of the scenes that made her vulnerable and stirred emotions with viewers. “A nominee for best actress on TV. This role allowed me to be vulnerable even more as an actor. It’s not easy being naked on national television, crying on national television, being ‘intimate’, rude, evil, loving and just to show my talent for the whole world to see. Here’s a recap of some uncomfortable but true-life scenes,” she wrote.

Gratitude for Support
When the show was wrapping up, Mbalenhle took to her Instagram timeline expressing her gratitude to those who supported her throughout her journey. “It’s a picture wrap for uMahlomu. I walked into this production a young lady and left as a wise woman. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and has been a part of my journey from the very beginning,” she said.
Working with Other Wives
In a statement shared with news reporters, Mbali said that while she didn’t work as much with the other wives (Zandile and Naledi), she enjoyed the few moments she shared with them. The actress also expressed her gratitude to The Wife’s passionate fans.
“To the 5 am gang, they are always going to be my people. I appreciate them for sharing so much love and support. I’m so grateful for how they accepted me. There were people who were sceptical about the fact that this was not the Hlomu they expected at first, and mostly those were probably people who have read Dudu Busani-Dube’s book.”
