The radio station from Limpopo, the home province of the popular musician, has faced criticism from other artists for not playing Master KG’s latest hit song Keneilwe.
The song, which is a tribute to the legendary Dan Tshanda and his group Dalom Kids, has been a sensation across the country, sparking many TikTok challenges and dominating the streaming platforms. It has amassed over 6.6 million views on YouTube in just a month.
However, Phala Phala FM has snubbed the song and only included one song by Master KG in their Top 20 list, while other artists had more than three songs each. This has angered the Limpopo Artists Movement, whose chairperson Mpho Mashabela spoke to Sunday World on Wednesday.
“This is just rubbish, the whole radio station has neglected Master KG,” said Mashabela.
“Phala Phala FM is dragging us down instead of lifting us up. We, as the Limpopo Artists Movement, are very unhappy.” He added that they should have honoured the legacy of Dan Tshanda and that they would boycott their Song of the Year contest.
The Phala Phala FM Top 20 list features songs by Cyria the Comm, De Mthuda, King Monada, Kharishma, DJ Cleo, Dlala Thukzin, Makhadzi and Master KG.
Master KG, whose real name is Kgaogelo Moagi, is a global star who has won many awards for his music. He did not reply to Sunday World’s request for a comment by the time of publication.
