A look at President Cyril Ramapohosa’s failed marriages and children from wives
Dr Tshepo Motsepe
The president has been married not once, not twice, but thrice. What leaves a lot to be desired is that he has divorced twice. Currently, he is married to Dr Tshepo Motsepe. The first lady happens to be a celebrated medical doctor and the sister to billionaire- Patrice Motsepe. The two tied the knot in 1996, and they have three children named Tumelo, Kiki, and Mashudu.
Hope Ramaphosa
Well before his marriage to Dr Tshepo Motsepe, he had divorced twice. The president’s first marriage was to Hope Ramaphosa. The two tied the knot in 1978. However, the rumour mill has it that there was trouble in paradise between the two before they called it quit in 1989. Their marriage was blessed with Cyril Ramaphosa’s firstborn son- Andile Ramaphosa.
Nomazizi Mtshotshisa
A few years after divorcing Hope, Cyril Ramaphosa tied the knot for the second time with businesswoman- Nomazizi Mtshotshisa. The two were blessed with a daughter- Tulisa Ramaphosa, but they divorced in 1993. Mtshotshisa died in 2008 after battling a long illness.
Reasons behind failed marriages
In recent years rumour mill has dropped several reasons behind the president’s divorces, from cheating allegations to abuse allegations. Unconfirmed reports also have it that the president was more than controlling. Some even termed these failed marriages as marriages of convenience. Mzansi was left puzzled back then in 2017 when EFF leader Julius Malema made a damning allegation that Cyril Ramaphosa had physically assaulted his ex-wife.
In the wake of the daring allegations that soiled the president’s character, Ramaphosa’s ex-wife Hope weighed into the matter. She came to her ex-husband’s defence and denied that he had never abused her during their relationship while reaffirming that Cyril was not violent.
