She made her name in the acting industry when she played Tiny on Moja Love adult-rated drama series Erased which tackles issues of rape, sex work, greed, and fame.

On Erased, Mandisa plays the role of Tiny a young black woman who was adopted and raised by a white family where her mother worked as a domestic worker.

Tiny was a product of rape, her mother was raped by unknown men in a bush and her stepfather rejected her. Growing up in a white family, Tiny had the best of everything until she was later raped by a family friend giving birth to her daughter Lulu.

Tiny struggled to live with her adopted family because the rapist frequently visits, she left the household and got hooked up into sex work.

At first, Mandisa Vilakazi felt uncomfortable portraying the role of a rape victim.

“I didn’t want to go into the set without doing research. I find it offensive to portray a rape victim without understanding. So, I asked a few rape survivors, and I picked up their habits in order to portray the character.”

Mandisa plays Liyana on SABC 1 drama series Uzalo, a woman who is obsessed with Fikile’s man Sbu.

She made her debut on the episode which aired on Monday, 31 August 2020, and was introduced in the Uzalo storyline by cunning Screwdriver who tried to break Sbu and Fikile’s relationship by introducing Sbu to Liyana.

As Fikile watched from a distance, she saw the stranger flirting with her boyfriend and claiming to be attracted to him. Liyana continuously helps Sbu with money in anticipation of finding a way into his heart.

She also recently shot Hush Money, a mini-drama series where she plays Nandi Buthelezi whose life changes after one tragedy.

Despite the rising fame, Mandisa has a soft spot for kids and the vulnerable, at a tender age in 2018 she founded the Mandisa Vilakazi Foundation on August 9, 2018, using her savings.

In August 2019 she celebrated the year anniversary of the Mandisa Vilakazi Foundation and celebrated the positive impact it had in the communities.

A year ago, my Foundation started operating. I remember August the 9th 2018 like it was yesterday!😭😭😭😭 I remember how I had no sponsors and I had to beg my parents to assist me and cut from my expenses to be able to get my foundation up and running. When I visited both those families, they were literally in tears and all I got was “Inkosi ikubusise”.I never took those words lightly because I knew very well ukuthi ayesuka ekujuleni kwezinhliziyo.

A year later the foundation is still doing great all thanks to @missmadlala_ for being part of all the collaborations. I remember how others concluded that within six months I will be over the whole NPO thing not even understanding that the motive behind this foundation was not to play games nor boost my ego, but to make sure someone goes to bed with food In their stomach, someone has clothes to wear and someone has a memorable matric dance despite their financial state at home. Deep down I know this foundation will do wonders, with the right support it shall go places.❤️🙏I do want to take this opportunity and thank everyone who has donated to the foundation, we are a year old today.
