The trial of the murder of 28-year-old Tshegofatso Pule, who was 8 months pregnant at the time of her death in June 2020.
The man convicted for killing Tshegofatso Pule, Muzikayise Malephane wrote a letter apologizing for the fateful incident and implicated the woman’s boyfriend.
Malephane was handed 20 years for murder. He told the court day that he was hired by Pule’s married boyfriend to kill her.
The boyfriend has been arrested by the police and Malephane has pledged to assist the State in getting to the bottom of the matter.
The remorseful Malephane gave journalists a handwritten letter expressing his regret over the killing of Pule.
“I’m writing this letter to you to share what has been on my mind and heart. I stayed awake writing this letter to my head and each time I found myself balling up the pages.
I couldn’t find the right words to explain how deeply I’m remorseful for killing Tshogofatso Pule. Somehow saying I’m sorry for robbing her of her life and family seems to be a small gesture. Every time I think about that fateful night I find myself, why I didn’t just drive away, call for help or even the police.
I have let down a lot of people and I will do everything in my power to learn from this regrettable doing and face the outcome of what transpired that night. I would like to extend my sincere apologies and I will continue forward doing what is best. Thank you.

Malephane says he was offered R7,000 at first for the murder of Pule, but refused. He was offered R20,000 and agreed reluctantly before agreeing to execute the job after an R70,000 reward was offered by the ex-boyfriend.
The married ex-boyfriend was attempting to conceal the pregnancy from his wife.
Malephane confessed that he shot Pule before hanging her on a tree.
