Malmesbury Correctional Centre official charged for raping 7-year-old son
In the wake of the viral warder and inmate sex video from KZN, another prison official has found himself trending for the wrong reasons. Recently a Department of Correctional Services official appeared before the courts of justice facing rape allegations.
The accused who happens to be a correctional service official from Malmesbury Correctional Centre was nabbed last week after it was reported that he raped his 7-year-old son countless times.

The police have since confirmed the arrest and have indicated investigations are currently underway. Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said a 45-year-old official was arrested on March 17.

According to official state papers, the correctional officer was nabbed after his wife reported the matter to the police. It is said that the official was nabbed at his house. In her police statement, the wife indicated that her son was raped on several occasions over a long period of time. Van Wyk said a case was opened after the arrest and police were investigating the case and assisting the mother and victim.

Other officials from Malmesbury Correctional Services Centre have since weighed into the matter. The officials did so as they staged a protest outside the court in a bid to convince the court to deny him bail.
One of the officials and colleague Zuzeka Dotwana was not happy at all. We are saddened because it happened right under their noses.

“We are still questioning ourselves. How did we miss this because it has been happening right in our community and especially because it has been happening since 2016?” she said.
After the court proceedings, Dotwana said they were happy with the outcome.
“We are happy he was denied bail. That means on his next appearance he will be coming from behind bars,” she said.

Department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said they were deeply disturbed by the allegations.
“The charges levelled against the officials are of serious concern. It is of great discomfort to us when our law enforcement officials appear in court charged for gruesome acts involving abuse of minors,” said Nxumalo.
The matter was postponed until March 31 for further investigation and the accused remained in custody.
