Makhadzi succeeded in many ways this year than some artists fail to succeed throughout their entire musical careers. The Salungano singer has proven to be an incredible artist, and she’s solidified her spot in the hearts of the South Africans and the world at large. Here are 5 of the fantastic milestones she’s reached this year.
1. Fully booked gigs
Makhadzi is one of the most sought after talents in South Africa. She has the privilege of being booked in all the provinces of Mzansi because of her huge fan base. The singer also gets bookings from neighbouring countries like Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana. She also gets booked in the rest of the African continent and at international stages.
2. Makhadzi was on the cover of a UK Magazine Classique Q&A Magazine.
The singer graced the cover of a United Kingdom magazine with a full spread of her images on it, and her life story gracefully splattered on the pages for Europe to know about her. The cover was a significant milestone as the United Kingdom has many artists the magazine could’ve chosen from, but they decided on Makhadzi instead. The cover showed how much of an influence she has, how big she is as an artist and how much she’s recognised in overseas countries.
3. Launching the sneaker line
Makhadzi collaborated with a sportswear company Kicks and launched Kokovha sneakers. The sneaker deal is worth R120 million. The Venda culture-inspired Kokovha sneakers cultivate the star’s vibrance and culture simultaneously.
4. She was one of the winners at the GQ Men of The Year Awards in 2021
The beauty of the GQ Men of The Year Awards is that they celebrate everyone, public figure or not, as long as the nominee has positively impacted society in their respective industry. The singer was honoured with the Entertainer of The Year Award at the star-studded ceremony.
5. Winning an AFRIMA Award
Makhadzi always felt snubbed by South African award ceremonies. Still, like the South African Music Awards, she was thrilled to be a performer and a winner at the AFRIMA Awards held in Nigeria. Makhadzi stunned the audience with her electrifying dance moves that proved her talents and capabilities. She ran with excitement and joy when she won the Artist of The Year Award against the musical giants Burna Boy, Fali Ipupa and Diamond Platinumz nominated for the same award.
