Zimbabwe Lockdown extension: President Mnangagwa has hinted that he will prioritise saving lives over the economy when it comes to the decision of locking down the economy according to Newsday. The news comes as covid-19 cases jumped from 32 to 40 yesterday.
The President was speaking at state house where he was receiving donations for the fight against covid-19. He asserted he would rather save live than the economy as live lost cannot be resuscitated, “err on the side of caution than carelessness”.

“We had the first lockdown, which I extended by 14 days, when you came, I was thinking about what happens after the lockdown ends,” Mnangagwa said at State House where he was receiving donations towards the fight against COVID-19, adding that the “economy can always be addressed later”.

“Balancing the need for economic growth or saving the lives of the people?
“I came to the conclusion that if citizens die, if our people die, we cannot resuscitate them.”
Zimbabwe covid-19 cases
Zimbabwe experienced the largest jump of covid-19 cases yesterday from 32 to 40. Six of the cases are in Harare where as two are in Bulawayo. Zimbabwe also experienced an increase in rural cases as Mhondoro and Murehwa recorded their first cases. Harare high density suburbs are still to record cases.

Zimbabweans lockdown extension could cause more problems for the poor. The urban population is facing an acute shortage of food mostly in urban areas as a result of the lockdown. The government intervened and made money transfers but people are still to confirm to have received it. Others are complaining the distribution of the relief funds is partisan.
