New Nkandla Council Composition. IFP 16 (15) ANC 11 (12). Total 27

The IFP had a very successful night in KZN. Held onto 3 very tough seats and easily won an ANC seat in Nkandla. The party also made inroads in Umlazi in eThekwini. A very good sign for them on the road to 2021.

IFP shocks the ANC in Nkandla. IFP wins Ward 13 (Mzwaneni Ntulwana) in Nkandla in King Cetshwayo in KZN. IFP 61% (32%) ANC 39% (68%). Turnout 59% (63%). This ward is very close to the Nkandla homestead. A big by-election upset.

New uMvoti Council Composition. ANC 15 (14) IFP 11 DA 1 NFP 0 (1). Total 27 NFP lose their only ward seat in the country. They did not contest the by-election.

Just to point out. The ANC did not hold the uMvoti by-election. They gained a ward. They took the ward from the NFP who won it in a by-election in 2019. PG Mavundla, the previous NFP councillor stood for the ABC yesterday and fell short by 203 votes.

ANC Gains Ward 7 from NFP. (Enhlalakahle Greytown) in uMvoti in Umzinyathi in KZN. ANC 51% (40%) Abatho Bantu Congress 45% * IFP 3% (2%) EFF 1% (1%) (NFP 57% did not contest). * PG Mavundla won this seat for the NFP and ran for his new party the ABC. Turnout 57% (60%).

DA holds Ward 25 (Montrose Chase Valley PMB) in Msunduzi in uMgungundlovu in KZN DA 93% (88%) ANC 5% (10%) Turnout 34% (69%). Some encouraging news for the DA in PMB. Three other parties failed to get more than 0.5%

Eish. The Shosholoza Progressive Party got zero votes in Ward 36 in eThekwini. Did the candidate forget to vote?

Big disruption in Western Cape by-elections yesterday. Big slide for the DA, but also for the 2nd biggest party in the province-the ANC. Both provincial party headquarters will be bitterly concerned this morning.

ANC holds Ward 51 (Langa) in Cape Town. ANC 47% (72%) Ind-Mandindi 21% EFF 16% (13%) Ind-Mxolose 7% Ind-Jikolo 4% Turnout 23% (53%). Big drop for the ANC in Langa. Independents hurt them.

DA holds Ward 9 (Leisure Island) in Knysna in the Garden Route in the WC. DA 76% (93%) Ind-Willemse 23% EFF 1%. Turnout 49% (70%). Willemse is the former Mayor and DA cllr. Crucial win for the DA.

The DA might have retained outright control of George, but the 4 by-election results suggest that control is now in big jeopardy for the DA in 2021. GOOD+PBI surge at the expense of the DA. The ANC had a pitiful showing in George. The EFF beat them twice in George last night.

New George Council Composition-DA 27 (28) ANC 17 PBI 2 GOOD 1 (0) EFF 1 VF+ 1 ACDP 1 ICOSA 1 AIC 1-Total 52. DA retain control of George.

GOOD shock DA in Ward 27 (Pacaltsdorp) in George in the Garden Route in the WC. GOOD 38%. DA 32% (56%) PBI 26% (19%) VF+ 3% (1%) ANC 1% (12%) EFF 1% (3%) Turnout 47% (53%). Remarkable victory for GOOD. They get their first ward councillor in SA. DA drops support to GOOD and PBI.

Some analysts have spoken about a DA hold in Matjhabeng (Henneman Phomolong). That is not correct. The DA lost this ward in a 2017 by-election but won it back last night.

ANC holds Ward 10 (Kwam KwaDumba) in Mhlontlo in OR Tambo in the Eastern Cape. ANC 69% (71%) UDM 23% (3%) ATM 5% EFF 3% (1%) Turnout 39% (60%). UDM picked up votes from CI (21%) who were not on the ballot.

ANC holds Ward 28 (Botshabelo K, F) in Mangaung in the Free State ANC 84% (79%) EFF 16% (10%) Turnout 28% (59%). Only 2 parties on ballot here. Good sign for ANC. It has been a hard few months in Mangaung.

ANC holds Ward 14 (Alicedale Seven Fountains) in Makana in Sarah Baartman in the Eastern Cape. ANC 79% (64%) EFF21% (4%). DA did not contest (32%) Turnout 33% (58%). It was likely that both parties would increase % vote share here as only 2 parties on the ballot. Solid ANC win

Of all the DA’s losses in Gauteng, the one that will worry them the most is the big loss to the Patriotic Alliance in Ward 68 (Riverlea Pennyville) in Johannesburg. This could be a game-changer in JHB. Huge win for the Patriotic Alliance. Most important result in their history
