Listen: Uzalo actor Njeza’ Nkanyiso Makhanya’ disappears, returns with a new song.
Nkanyiso Makhanya plays the role of Njeza on Uzalo. He went on a hiatus, and Uzalo fans have been wondering where he disappeared to; guess what? Njeza is back with a new song. After playing a straining role of an abusive partner, Uzalo scriptwriters gave Njeza the much needed and well-deserved break. His storyline of abusing Nosipho, beating her to the pulp in front of KwaMashu residents resulted in a real-life attack from fans who warned him to stop abusing women.
On Uzalo, the Njeza character is a Xaba family member who stays with his sister Nonka, cousin sister Lily and aunt MaDongwe. He comes from a poor background and struggles to change his family’s fortunes. Njeza finds himself in criminal gangs; money heists and drugs are his specialities, he believes, his actions are caused by lack of education and poverty.
Over the Uzalo storyline, Njeza fell in love with Zekhethelo, Nonka’s friend Hleziphi and Nosipho. He is currently in prison serving time for Gender-Based Violence and attempted murder charges after abusing Nosipho. Narrating his difficult growing up, Njeza revealed that he killed his biological father while defending his defenceless mother from physical abuse.
