Actor Linda Majola is set to hold his first-ever one-man comedy special. The show, titled “This & That with a side of Jazz,” will be held at the Seabrooke Theatre at Durban High School on June 30.
Inspiration for the Show
Though Linda is not a comedian, the skits he shared on his social media accounts have been a hit with his followers. This inspired him to organize a fully-fledged self-funded show. He told TshisaLIVE, “I started creating content on TikTok and Instagram. I’ve always loved telling stories and also just making people laugh.”
Linda’s experiences in life have helped him make people laugh. He said, “The experiences I have had in life being queer, navigating dating as queer, navigating being a grandson and a son, and also the entertainment industry and just being a human in general, I think through all these experiences I have been able to make people laugh and now I want to put a show together that kind of embodies that.”

A Different Flair
Linda’s show will have a different flair, with a bit of jazz. He said he found musicians from different places and put them together. He hopes in future to get brand sponsorship to take his show nationwide.
He explained, “I got a band together of highly-skilled jazz musicians I want to give a platform to, and also to partner up with them to give a better experience in terms of comedy. I think the way we are consuming content its quite different. We know how comedians are doing it and they are killing it. People want something short, they want something quick, they want something that has a twist of dancing and singing, they want versatility in performances.”
Linda wanted to give people more than just stand-up comedy. He said, “They don’t just want me to stand with a mic and a bottle of water on the side and tell a joke. I also appreciate and value people who do that, but I wanted to give people a bit of a theatre experience as well.”
Show Content
The show will touch on Linda navigating his life as a queer man and socioeconomic issues faced by young individuals. He said, “It’s an umbrella of experiences I want to discuss. There’s also a lot of music that will be centred around that, struggle songs, songs about celebrating blackness, my sexuality as accepting and loving as the way that it is.”
Linda also wants to include songs and jokes about the community. He said, “Also songs that speak about community, jokes and humour that are about the community that is above being black and Zulu growing up in the township.”
Linda’s Acting Career
After his acting debut on Showmax’s telenovela The Wife, Linda has found a new home on SABC 1’s popular weeknight drama series Uzalo. He made his debut on June 13 as the character Mzamo Shezi.
Linda is grateful for the opportunity to join the cast of Uzalo. He said, “Joining the cast of Uzalo has been incredible because Uzalo has rocket-launched so many careers. A lot of big names in the industry started off on Uzalo or had their big break on Uzalo.”
He added, “This for me is like walking in their footsteps. I appreciate the people, the crew and the cast of Uzalo. They are people who mentor you and show you the way. I’m eternally grateful to have the opportunity.”
