Level 4 lockdown extended for another 14 days
The level 4 lockdown effected on January 5 2021 has been extended by further two weeks to February 15 2021. This comes after the death rate surpassed the 1000 mark. This was announced by the Minister of Health and Child Care Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga.
Addressing the nation, he mentions that the Government of Zimbabwe continues to intensify testing and patient care throughout the country.
“We are finalizing the vaccine rollout plan and deployment . The number of infections are decreasing and so is the dearth rate. It is a positive sign that that the recovery rate is also up. However, Zimbabwe has a likelihood of new strain and variants circulating. This calls for more time to track the genetic history of the virus hence genomic sequencing of COVID-19 is underway. We are doing this so that we can trace the source of the variants,” The Vice President said.
